My engine hoist has been invaluable. I usually pull the Z motor out once every two years to inspect for exhaust leaks and crap. Engine hoist, engine stand and a decent tool set you can do about anything. There is an online manual for your torque specs. The only work that I have had the machine shop do on this build is: polish the crank & check clearances. balance the Eagle rods & Ross pistons. install +1mm valves, valve seals, springs & port. hone cylinders and check clearances. Just about everything else you can do at home and you learn your car. Definitely helps when having to troubleshoot.
